Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Sam Amadi, has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court over failure to electronically transmit results from polling units.
This was contained in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/426/2023, filed at the Federal High Court of Nigeria in the Abuja Judicial Division holden at Abuja.
The suit was brought by Prof Haruna Dabin, Joseph Enan, Joseph Inya Agha, Afeez Adeola Adeyeye, Lawrence Agi Oloko and Kuyembo Danjuma as the Applicants/ Plaintiffs, on behalf of Sam Amadi.

It has the Independent National Electoral Commission, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, all INEC Commissioners, 177,606 polling unit officers and the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, as the Defendants/ Respondents.
The Plaintiffs wants all INEC commissioners, as well as the polling unit officers, to be prosecuted for violating the electoral laws as amended respecting electronical transmission of results from polling units.
COncerning the suit, Dr. Amadi, who was a fellow at the Care Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard, said:
“I am convinced that INEC ought to electronically transmit results from polling units and failure to do so is a federal offense.
“I am in court to secure an order for the police to prosecute INEC commissioners. Accountability should be beyond partisanship. On July 7 we continue…”
