Elon Musk, chief executive officer of Tesla, has become the first person in history to attain a net worth of $638 billion, according to data from Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index (BBI).
The index shows a widening gap between the South African-born American entrepreneur and other global billionaires. Musk’s fortune surged by 42.7 percent over the past year, rising sharply from December 2024.
His current net worth is more than double that of the world’s second-richest person, Google co-founder Larry Page, whose wealth stands at $265 billion a difference of 140.75 percent.
Bloomberg’s rankings place Sergey Brin and Jeff Bezos third and fourth, each valued at $246 billion, while Oracle founder Larry Ellison ranks fifth with $238 billion.
They are followed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg at $229 billion and LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault with $202 billion.
Completing the top ten are Steve Ballmer ($166 billion), Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang ($153 billion), and Warren Buffett ($152 billion).
Musk first made history in December 2024 when he surpassed $400 billion, overtaking Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to become the world’s richest individual.
Beyond Tesla, Musk is also the founder of xAI, an artificial intelligence company. He recently announced the launch of Grokipedia, a new online encyclopedia designed to compete with Wikipedia.
