Nigerian businessman Tony Elumelu has highlighted a $15 billion pipeline of projects for West Africa, signalling opportunities to attract investment, expand businesses and accelerate regional economic growth.
The proposed projects come as African economies seek new sources of capital to address infrastructure gaps, strengthen industries and create employment opportunities.
Elumelu, chairman of Heirs Holdings and United Bank for Africa, has consistently advocated greater private sector investment as a driver of Africa’s economic transformation.
A project pipeline of this scale could open opportunities across key sectors, including energy, infrastructure and other productive industries, although the actual impact will depend on financing arrangements and implementation.
West Africa continues to face challenges in funding major development projects, with limited access to affordable capital often slowing infrastructure expansion and business growth.
Mobilising private investment could help bridge some of these gaps while supporting regional trade and economic cooperation.
The initiative also highlights the importance of partnerships between governments, financial institutions and private investors in turning proposed projects into functioning businesses and infrastructure.
As the region seeks to strengthen its economic position, the focus will be on converting the $15 billion pipeline into funded projects that deliver jobs, improve productivity and support sustainable growth.
