Emefiele: DSS desecrated the court, says activist
Human rights activist and author, comrade Paul Njoku, has accused the Department of Security Services (DSS) of desecrating the court following the fight that erupted between them and operatives of Nigeria Correctional Services over who will take the suspended former Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele into custody after a Federal High Court granted him 20 million naira bail.
Activist Paul in statement he made available to News Band, said that “every Nigerian is on trial”. He accused president Bola Tinubu of victimizing the former bank chief.
While questioning the actions of the secret police which he said is a disservice to the nation’s democracy, Paul urged the DSS to tell Nigerians the truth about re-arrest of Emefiele.
Mr Paul however, reiterated that president Tinubu is merely witch-hunting Emefiele without diligent prosecution as prescribed by the constitution and rule of law.
Part of the statement reads, “The DSS desecrated court premises over the custody of the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, who was given express bail with utter instruction to be taken into custody at the Ikoyi correctional center by the court today.
“Every Nigerian is on trial today. This is nothing but victimization by President Bola Tinubu whom I perceive clueless and utterly incompetent.
“This effontary on the Nigerian judiciary must not be tolerated. It is a disservice to our democracy and degeneration of anarchy and chaos. We have a country to protect.
“The DSS should tell Nigerians the truth about re-arresting of the suspended CBN Governor in outright violation of court order.
“Sadly, Tinubu is maliciously witch-hunting him without diligent prosecution as prescribed by the constitution and rule of law.
“Mr. President must stop embarrassing the judiciary and come openly on Emefiele’s matter.
“It has been proven that Tinubu is ready to bring down this country and we must resist it because it is unacceptable in a constitutional democracy.”
