Not less than 250 elderly, vulnerable women and men from all 13 local government areas in Nasarawa State received a total of N50 million from First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday.

Speaking during the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme’s second edition in the state capital of Lafia, the First Lady reportedly explained that the program’s goal was to promote the welfare of senior adults 65 years of age and older across the 36 federation states.

She clarified that N1.9 billion had been set aside for distribution to elderly men and women nationwide, including in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, with the goal of mitigating the impact of the people’ economic hardships.

The state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Rufai-Ibrahim, on behalf of the First Lady, added that the gift would also help veterans from the Defense and Police Officers’ Wives Association.

She said: “The Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative has decided to increase the initial grant of N100,000 to N200,000 this year in order to provide further support to our elderly citizens during this festival season.

“A total of N1.9bn will be disbursed across the nation.

“The RHI coordinators in the 36 states of the federation, the FCT and DEPOWA have received N50m each, out of which N200,000 will be distributed to each beneficiary”.

In an effort to promote the health of the elderly, the First Lady also declared that free medical care would soon be provided nationwide.

She also thanked Salifat Abdullahi-Sule, the first lady of Nasarawa State, and all the other state first ladies across the nation for their dedication to the welfare of their respective populations.

“I congratulate all the senior citizens who have been selected as beneficiaries, but I want to urge you all to prioritise your health, eat well, stay hydrated, and do little exercises regularly.

“You also need adequate rest, and try to spend quality time with your loved ones”, she added.

Speaking at the event, the governor’s wife praised the donor for her unwavering efforts to improve the lives of vulnerable men and women in society as she performed the symbolic gift of cash and wrappers to the recipients.

The First Lady of Nasarawa State urged the recipients to spend the funds and gifts they received wisely in order to support the President’s wife’s efforts.
