Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong has empowered 2,889 women and youths. This he said is aimed at fighting poverty rather than “fighting unnecessary war.”

Governor Lalong, who presented starter packs to some of the trainees that participated in the four-month Simon Lalong Entrepreneurship Scheme, SLES, skills training organised through Plateau State Microfinance and Development Agency, PLASMEDA, in partnership with Apurimac Nigeria and Jos Entrepre-neurship Academy, urged the beneficiaries to contribute their quota in growing the business industry in the state.

He directed PLASMEDA to ensure that 200 persons per council were trained in three batches in the next phases of the project.

Earlier, the Country Director, Apurimac Nigeria, Godwin Okoko, said 10,000 persons applied for the training, but that 2,889, comprising of 55 percent women and 45 percent youths, were picked. According to Vanguard.
