Enugu govt destroys home of native doctor accused of ritual killings
DDM News

The Enugu State Government has pulled down the mansion of a native doctor identified as Obi Levi Obieze.
This followed his arrest over allegations linking him to ritual killings, abductions, and kidnappings.
Obieze, who is popularly known in his community as Levi Onyeka, hails from Umuojor village in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
He reportedly carried out his herbalist practices in the area for several years.
He gained a reputation both for spiritual healing and, recently, for more sinister activities.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the arrest of the suspect was made possible through a coordinated operation by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and other security agencies.
According to reports, Obieze was apprehended last Thursday on multiple charges.
These include ritual killings and the abduction of individuals in the state.
Social media played a critical role in drawing attention to the case.
Shocking images and disturbing videos showing decomposed bodies in a sewage pit began circulating online.
These gruesome visuals were reportedly traced to an uncompleted building said to be owned by the suspect.
The evidence sparked public outrage and compelled authorities to take urgent action.
In a statement issued by Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, the administration commended the swift response of the security operatives who worked together to arrest the fugitive.
The Enugu State Government also disclosed that the suspect’s luxurious property in Umumba Ndiagu was demolished on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
The demolition was carried out in accordance with Section 315 (Second Amendment) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 30, Laws of Enugu State.
This provision allows for the destruction of any property found to be linked with crimes such as kidnapping and ritual activities.
The state government emphasized that the action was meant to serve as a deterrent to others.
It warned those who may consider engaging in similar criminal behaviour.
“The arrest has reinforced our resolve to bring to justice all those involved in the horrifying acts of kidnapping and ritual killings associated with the suspect,” the statement read.
Furthermore, the government applauded the vigilance of community members.
It also commended the commitment of security personnel.
The authorities stressed that such criminal acts will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
“This administration will not condone any form of criminality in our communities under any guise,” the statement declared.
The government also issued a strong warning to community leaders, traditional rulers, and town union executives.
They were advised to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the relevant authorities.
It further warned that anyone found aiding or covering up for criminals will be regarded as an accomplice.
Such persons, it stated, will be treated accordingly under the law.
This incident adds to a growing list of cases in Nigeria where ritual killings are intertwined with traditional practices.
It raises concerns over the misuse of cultural and spiritual institutions.
Security experts and civil society organizations have consistently called for stronger regulations and surveillance.
They stress the need for oversight in rural communities where such practices are often hidden under the guise of traditional medicine.
With the arrest of Obi Levi Obieze and the demolition of his property, the Enugu State Government aims to send a strong message.
It is reinforcing its zero-tolerance stance on criminality.
