Enuka Chuka: Tension in UNIZIK after professor attacked HOD, slapped, rained punches on him

There is an uneasy tension in Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) after a Professor of History in the Faculty of Arts in the Department of History and International Studies, Mr. Chuka Enuka, reportedly attacked his Head of Department (HOD), raining down punches and slaps on the bewildered learned man.

The victim was later identified as the Head of Department of History and International Studies, Dr. Ikenna Odife.

According to an eyewitness, who informed Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) of the encounter, the incident took place on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, right there in the Faculty.

DDM was also informed that this same professor has been reported of physically assaulting students, as well as fellow lecturers.

Mr. Enuka has also been accused of notoriously sexually abusing and harassing female students.

The Enuka genesis

So it was on the said May 21 that the HOD was going about his personal business when, suddenly, Enuka pounced on him.

According to reports obtained by DDM, he waylaid the HOD who was going about his responsibilities and dazed him with blows.

It took the quick intervention of some students of the Department of Music to stop him and salvage the HOD from him.

Meanwhile, the HOD sustained wounds from the attack before officers from the Safety Unit arrived and separated them.

The observer described the professor as erratic and irrational, regretting that Enuka is a fundamental dent on UNIZIK.

He further pointed out that he is known to frequently scolding everyone around him.

Recently, according to reports, he assaulted a female student for no apparent reason, shoving, slapping and punching her in public glare.

Amidst the irony, however, the student was not bold enough to make an official report, which leads to another allegation.

Cultic and diabolic

Professor Enuka has also been accused of steep involvement in cultism and other diabolic activities.

This was well captured in a recorded voice message by a female student and made available to this medium.

Below is the voice note by one of the alumni of the department on the alumni WhatsApp group.

The lady, who craved anonymity, preferred to pass out from the institution peacefully than to be ruffled up by Enuka.

Apart from the above-referenced records, Enuka has had several cases of sexual harassment but has always, somehow, managed to extricate himself out of the mess.

In the latest incident, the erratic professor was alleged to have violently confronted the HOD over a petty issue.

In the presence of colleagues and students, he pounced on the HOD but was stopped by other lecturers and passers-by present.

The belligerent Enuka, however, won’t have a “NO” for an answer.

Like a man under the influence of evil forces, he dashed around, cursing and threatening fire and brimstone.

UNIZIK management steps in

In a deft move, meanwhile, UNIZIK management slammed a suspension on him, long before his due tenure expiration date.

UNIZIK leadership cited repeated cases of physical assault on even post-graduate students, as well as cases of extortion.

To the shock and chagrin of onlookers, however, the management allowed him to get away with this crassly deplorable behaviour.

He even earned a promotion while the matter was still going on.

Reacting to the history of violence and ‘shameful and egregious’ misconduct of Enuka, a stakeholder in the History Department wrote anonymously:

“Until the anathema in the Department is rooted out, the History Department at UNIZIK will continue to make headlines for shameful and egregiously unedifying reasons.

“This anathema maranatha, which I believe the university community knows his name, mental and emotional precariousness and instability, has often boasted that he has faced the university’s disciplinary panels more than anyone in the History of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

“Truly so, he has been indicted by panels upon panels for all manner of misconduct and unethical practices.

“He has even been sent for psychological evaluation twice, both of which returned negative reports on him.

“Why the university leadership has yet to suspend or sack him is a theme that shall be discussed next.

“His tactic is three-pronged: he has fallen despicably from an SU/EFAC lay preacher to a great patron of sorcerers, which he lavishly employs against his less spiritual challengers.

“For his latest shameful act of beating up the HOD, (Enuka) and his goons have gone to preternaturally defecate in front of the HOD’s office, yes nsi!

“Those who are spiritually aware know the import.

“His second tactic is recruiting a ring of hair-brained lecturers in the Department, to whom he makes promises of things he does not have.

“Many of these fellows cannot write a correct sentence in any language, including Igbo.

“His third tactic is begging. Surprisingly so! When he perceives that a supposed foe is not relenting, he goes to beg.

“He calls people who know the person or who the person listens to for assistance in pleading for a dismissal of the matter.

“When this is done, the cycle commences again. He claims that everything is just in war, including begging an enemy.

“His misconduct is as long as the Ezu River coursing through Ugwuoba and Omambala.

“He (Enuka) has assaulted students sexually and physically in his office.

“Nearly every lecturer who stands for the truth in the Department has written at least one petition against him.

“He has railed against female professors of the faculty, who challenge him on his impunity with female students.

“The entire faculty of Arts knows he is unstable, yet they continue to treat him as only a History Departmental anathema.

“Now he has lost all manners and has started assaulting his colleagues, which he symbolically started with his head of department.

“It won’t be long before it grows beyond the department; by then, it will be realized that this has gone beyond a departmental problem.

“The hen that was attacked by a kite says that its aim in frenetic clucking is not so much that its assailant would pity her but so that the world would hear its voice.

Enuka in defamation suit against Facebook page admin

In the meantime, it could be remembered that Enuka had initiated a defamation suit against the admins of a Facebook page, “For the Love of Anambra“.

“For the Love of Anambra” had accused Dr. Enuka of sex for grades and other vices and misconducts.

After five years of legal fireworks, the court dismissed the defamation suit.

Reacting to the suit dismissal, the Admin of the Page, Admin Nkwelle, wrote:

“A “five year” legal battle comes to an end as court dismisses the defamation case against the admins of this page “For The Love Of Anambra” by Dr Chuka Enuka of the Department of History and International Relations, UNIZIK, Awka, on allegations of sex for grades and other misconducts.

“Sometime in 2019, this Page reposted an already viral post requesting that the school management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka investigate one of her lecturers by name Dr Chuka Enuka on the allegations bordering on asking female students for sex in order to pass their exams or gain favour, extorting money from students for the purpose of passing their examinations and other inhuman treatments towards his students.

“The already deleted post alleged that Dr Chuka Enuka takes his female victims to Milatel Hotels, Awka, where he sleeps with them out of their will.

“The post attracted so many reactions from the public.

“Some of the reactions revealed that the said Dr Chuka Enuka has faced the school panel on the same matter and some persons testified of their personal bad experiences and encounter with the very lecturer.

“On seeing the very post, Dr Chuka Enuka arrested two of the Admins of this page, detained them for more than 3 days, took them to court and charged them for defamation, conspiracy, threat to life and other misconduct.

“Today being Monday 12th of 2025, the Awka Magistrate Court in Amawbia, presided over by Magistrate Mike Anyadiegwu, dismissed the defamation suit filed by Chuka Enuka, a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, against two administrators of the For the Love of Anambra Facebook page.

“The case, with charge number MAW/01C/2020, stemmed from a December 2019 social media post that accused Enuka of extorting students, demanding sex for marks, and other misconduct.

“The post went viral, prompting the lecturer to take legal action against the page’s admins.

In his ruling, Magistrate Anyadiegwu held that the prosecution failed to prove that the defendants acted with malice.

“The admins had maintained that their post was merely calling on the university authorities to investigate the allegations against Enuka, rather than an outright defamatory attack.

“The court’s decision brings an end to the five-year legal battle, upholding the defendants’ argument that their publication was made in the public interest.” [End]
