Former Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru has denied a viral claim that he resigned over concerns about United States planned military operations, calling it “entirely false”.
In a statement, Badaru said he stepped down for health reasons, as communicated to President Bola Tinubu in a December 1 letter.
The controversial online post alleged Badaru quit because he “cannot stand and watch the US and Tinubu government bombing our brothers in the forest”.
He labelled this a malicious fabrication aimed at damaging his reputation and creating tension between him and the president.
“I wish to state categorically and unequivocally that this publication is entirely false and did not come from me or anyone authorised to speak for me,” he said.
Badaru reaffirmed his loyalty to President Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Nigeria’s peace and security efforts, pledging support for the 2027 elections.
Following Badaru’s resignation, President Tinubu appointed General Christopher Musa as the new Defence Minister, and he was confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday.
