A loud explosion rocked the area near Abacha Barracks along Nyanya-Maraba road in Abuja on Monday afternoon, sending panicked residents and commuters scrambling for safety.

The blast occurred around 2:50 PM, leaving one person injured amid the chaos that followed.

Eyewitnesses described hearing a deafening sound that triggered immediate confusion as people ran in different directions seeking cover. While some initially feared a suicide bombing, authorities quickly moved to dispel such rumors pending proper investigation.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command responded swiftly to the incident, with spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirming the deployment of explosive experts to the scene. She explained that security personnel cordoned off the area to allow proper examination while protecting civilians from potential further danger.

Emergency responders rescued a male victim from the blast site, rushing him to a nearby hospital where doctors are currently treating his injuries. Authorities have withheld the man’s identity as investigations continue into the disturbing incident.

Early findings suggest the explosion may have originated from a dry cell battery, though military bomb disposal teams remain on ground conducting thorough forensic analysis. The latest reports confirm the tragic death of one person alongside the injured victim.

Investigators are working round the clock to piece together what exactly caused the explosion as forensic experts comb through debris for crucial evidence. Attempts to get additional information from Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Onyechi Anele proved unsuccessful when reporters reached out.

Security agencies have urged residents to stay alert while maintaining normal activities as they intensify efforts to guarantee public safety. The police promised to keep citizens informed as new details emerge from their ongoing investigation into this alarming incident.
