The statement credited to Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, former Governor of Anambra, as reported in the mass media today, to the effect that APC will win Anambra State by rigging is largely unstatesmanly and ought not to attract a comment, but for the need to redirect the role model criteria for Anambra State for the future.
It has always been our position that Dr Ezeife is at a level where he has out-grown street radicalism and downright partisanship. But we will not write his retirement letter.
Rather we state for the avoidance of doubt that no one, no group and no power has been, or is about to be sent to ‘capture’ Anambra State as Dr Ezeife wrongly suggested.
On the contrary, there is a concerted effort , intensive hard work and fine-tuned strategy by our great party to win the November 18, 2017 governorship elections and redirect the derailing course of Anambra State, from which we wished Dr. Ezeife, was not benefitting materially. We have no apologies to offer on this.
It is necessary to remind Ndi Anambra and Nigerians that one of the formidable politicians who have recently enlisted in our party is Senator Mrs Uche Lilian Ekwunife.
Ekwunife was endorsed by Ezeife to win the governorship contest in 2013.If Ezeife belived she could win then, there are numerous persons in Ekwunife’s stature who have recently pitched tent in APC.
To understand the word-action gap in Ezeife, if any, when the Primaries were rigged in All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and all aspirants who had potentials to win without double-registration and rigging ,including Dr Chike Obidigbo were excluded, Ezeife’s voice was lost. And Why not? To emerge, as governorship candidate in 1991,Okechukwu Odunze and another aspirant had to be disqualified by ‘a force sent to capture Anambra State’ in the then Social Democratic Party (SDP). So the loquacious senior citizen of Anambra State shares the same history of candidature with the out-going governor of Anambra State.
Again, when in the primaries contest, his endorsed aspirant, then Hon Ekwunife complained that she did not see the delegates list, before heading to court, Ezeife did not talk or do anything.
When Ekwunife was excluded in the party caucuses and hierarchies and was now being denied the opportunity to get a ticket to return to the National Assembly in 2014, culminating in her departure from APGA, ahead of 2015 elections,Ezeife’s ringing voice lost power.
When she was removed from the Senate by APGA in pursuit of the founded bitterness, Ezeife did not voice up on principle and certainly does not see anything wrong with not having a Senator for Anambra Central District.
Now, Ekwunife is in APC with the same supporters with which Ezeife endorsed her, but Ezeife thinks that APC needs rigging, like APGA , a party he benefits from to win. Obinna Uzor is in APC with his supporters; Senator Andy Uba is in APC with his supporters; Hon Tony Nwoye is in APC with his supporters; Dr Chike Obidigbo has further depleted Eziefe’s APGA and is in APC with his teeming supporters, yet Ezeife still thinks that APC cannot win on the ground, when these add up with the resident ACN-ANPP machine.
No Ezeife is wishing foreseeable destiny away and creating grounds for needless complaint after the impending loss.
When real forces were deployed to capture Anambra State in 2013, and large sections of communities he led for two years as governor where prevented from voting,he lost his voice. When the recorded votes exceeded the number of ballot papers to Ezeife’s knowledge, he kept a low profile. Till now Ezeife has not spoken in the line of bringing the rigging Returning Officer arrested in Idemili North to justice, four years after he was arrested in that of an election, but goes on making unauthorised statements in the name of Ndigbo.
Gladly and by devine situation Ezeife spoke in Ondo State ,the land of APC’s latest clean victory without post-election litigation, in the midst of those defeated by APC, which offers the best understanding to his vocal dreams.
We assure Ezeife, who keeps losing the opportunity to be a statesman to be a proper politician by subjecting his views to analysis, rather than being a media tiger whose name, standing on Anambra State platform should sell newspapers outside Anambra State.
We reassure Ndi Anambra that those who are putting more energy into wishful thinking, rather than robust strategy will be disappointed as APC will win convincingly, based on fair play.
