Fake lawyer: woman arrested for impersonation
Benedicta Ebele Edeh, a 45 yr old woman was today arraigned before a magistrate court sitting in Ejigbo Lagos. The two count charges brought against the defendant bothers on conduct likely to cause breach of peace and impersonation. She pleaded not guilty to the two count charge and consequent upon which she was admitted to bail in the sum of N200k with two sureties in like sum, one of the sureties must have a duly registered property and to deposit the c/o to the Lagos State government while the second surety must be a level 16 officer of the state ministry and to deposit his letter of employment with the court. Both must show evidence of 3 years tax payment and their addresses to be verified by the police.
Matter was adjourned to 19/02/2020. Asp Kenneth Asibo – the prosecutor. Olushola Coker – counsel for the defendant while *Basil Owolabi Esq. and O. A. Henry Esq. held watching brief for the NBA Ikeja and Ota branches respectively.* The IPO in the matter is one *Sergeant T. Abiodun* while the presiding Magistrate that presided over the matter was *Magistrate – T. O. Shomade*.
Luck ran out of the fake lawyer when she came calling for the immediate release of her client, Ekene Gilbert who was arrested by the Police on the 13/01/2020 over what could be described as a dangerous driving and driving against traffic laws. She apparently appeared before the DPO of Isheri-Oshun Police Station following up the arrest and detention of one Mr. Ekene Gilbert on the 13/01/2020 who was said to have contravened the traffic laws of Lagos State, ranting to be certified lawyer called to the bar only for the police to discover that she is only a secondary certificate holder.
She then introduced herself as a lawyer to the DPO and other officers on duty. During interrogation it was discovered that she never attended any University let a lone, the law school.
