Police in Kebbi State have arrested a 25-year-old man, Idrisu Musa, over the killing of his elder brother and the man’s wife in what authorities describe as a brutal domestic attack in Asarara Village.
The victims, Muhammed Haruna and his wife Habiba Muhammed, were reportedly attacked in their home in the early hours of Saturday while they were asleep. According to police, the assault happened around 5:15 a.m. and involved the use of a cutlass.
Both victims sustained severe injuries and were later confirmed dead.
Confirming the arrest, police spokesperson SP Bashir Usman said investigators recovered what he described as “substantial and incriminating evidence” linking the suspect to the killings.
He also revealed that the suspect had allegedly threatened the couple with a cutlass on previous occasions before the fatal incident.
“The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested Idrisu Musa, 25, in connection with the murder of his elder brother Muhammed Haruna, and his wife Habiba Muhammed,” the statement said.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, for further investigation.
Police say they are working to establish the full circumstances behind the attack, while assuring residents that the suspect will be prosecuted once investigations are completed.
The incident, which occurred in Jega Local Government Area, had initially thrown the community into shock as residents struggled to understand what led to the deadly confrontation within a family.
Authorities say further updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
