FBI Arrests Two US Pastors in $50M Human Trafficking, Fraud Scandal

Two church leaders in the United States, Michelle Brannon (56) and David Taylor (53), have been arrested in connection with a $50 million human trafficking and fraud scheme, following a series of FBI raids across multiple states on Wednesday.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed that the suspects are leaders of the Kingdom of God Global Church, formerly known as Joshua Media Ministries International.

Taylor referred to himself as “Apostle” and Brannon as his Executive Director.

Allegations Against the Pastors

Operating call centers in Florida, Texas, Missouri, and Michigan to solicit donations.

Forcing victims to work as personal servants (“armour bearers”) and at call centers without pay.

Controlling victims’ daily lives, including housing and restricted movement.

Coercing victims to transport women to Taylor and ensure they used emergency contraceptives.

Using donations to fund luxury properties, vehicles, boats, jet skis, and ATVs.

The indictment contains 10 counts, including forced labour, conspiracy to commit forced labour, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Each charge carries a maximum of 20 years in federal prison.

Brannon was arrested at a mansion in Hillsborough County, Florida, while Taylor was taken into custody in North Carolina.

Additional raids targeted a church-owned hotel in Houston.

Officials described the case as an example of modern exploitation and financial crime, emphasizing the DOJ’s commitment to ending human trafficking.

“We will use every lawful tool against human traffickers and seek justice for their victims,” said U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon Jr. for the Eastern District of Michigan.

The case involved coordination with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, highlighting the multi-state effort to combat forced labour and human trafficking.

Brannon appeared in federal court in Tampa on Wednesday.

Her hearing has been continued to Thursday afternoon to ensure she secures legal representation.
