(DDM) – Dr. Paul Moses, chairmanship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has issued a strong warning ahead of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, insisting that the will of voters must be respected.
Speaking to supporters on Friday, February 20, 2026, just hours before voting commenced, Moses declared that the democratic environment in the nation’s capital would not tolerate manipulation or interference.
In what appeared to be a direct message to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Moses emphasized that AMAC was not comparable to Obio/Akpor and cautioned against any attempt to tamper with election results.
“This is not Obio/Akpor; you cannot simply write votes in AMAC. Someone should inform him that the people’s votes will count,” Moses told the gathering.
The statement comes amid heightened political tension in the FCT, where recent developments within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have drawn attention. Under Wike’s influence, several PDP chairmanship aspirants reportedly stepped down shortly before the elections.
According to reports, the withdrawals were part of a broader political realignment that ultimately saw some PDP figures backing candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The move significantly reduced the number of contestants in certain races and has been interpreted by observers as an effort to consolidate political strength ahead of the polls.
Moses, however, maintained that the electoral process in AMAC would reflect the genuine choices of the electorate. He stressed that the capital city’s democratic culture is resilient and that voters would ultimately determine the outcome at the ballot box.
Political analysts note that the FCT Area Council elections are often closely watched due to the symbolic importance of the capital and its diverse electorate. The involvement of high-profile political figures has further amplified interest in the contest.
As residents head to the polls, attention remains focused on whether the elections will proceed peacefully and transparently, and whether the outcomes will align with the expectations expressed by candidates and party supporters.
