FCT Police Command investigates viral video alleging harassment by officers

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has initiated an investigation into a trending video where an unidentified man accuses officers of harassment. Consequently, this video has attracted widespread public concern, leading to increased scrutiny of police behavior. Furthermore, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the investigation on Friday, noting that initial findings suggest the incident occurred on June 4, 2025, at around 1 p.m.
According to Adeh, the officers involved belonged to a surveillance team from the Kubwa Area Command. Additionally, they were patrolling the Chikakore Bridge axis, an area assigned special security importance. Moreover, Adeh explained that the officers observed a suspiciously parked vehicle along FO1–Chikakore Road, which had been stationary for more than 20 minutes.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers encountered two male occupants. However, one individual became confrontational during routine questioning, challenging the officers’ authority and accusing them of harassment. Subsequently, the situation escalated as the man drew bystanders’ attention, resulting in a public altercation. Shortly afterward, footage of the incident circulated widely on social media.
In response, the FCT Commissioner of Police summoned the officers for questioning, demonstrating the Command’s commitment to transparency. Meanwhile, internal administrative reviews are ongoing to assess the officers’ conduct. Additionally, Adeh urged the individuals in the video to come forward and provide official statements to aid the investigation.
Emphasizing professionalism, Adeh reiterated the Command’s dedication to accountability and respectful public engagement. She also encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact the Public Relations Office directly. As the investigation progresses, the FCT Police Command pledges to uphold justice and maintain public trust, with further updates expected soon.
Ultimately, the Command remains focused on resolving the matter fairly while reinforcing its adherence to ethical policing standards. The public is assured that all findings will be disclosed transparently to foster confidence in law enforcement processes.
