FCT polls: Tinubu hails Wike for APC victory

President Bola Tinubu has praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, saying his performance in the capital contributed to APC’s electoral gains.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday conducted elections across the six area councils of the FCT.

It also conducted by-elections in Rivers and Kano States.

The APC recorded huge victories, securing most of the contested positions.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Chief Bayo Onanuga, the spokesman of the president, Tinubu congratulated the successful candidates.

He also commended INEC, security agencies and other stakeholders for their roles in ensuring a smooth and credible electoral process.

President Tinubu urged those elected to govern with “humility, patriotism, and dedication and to view the mandate given to them by the people as a sacred trust.”

Meanwhile, despite Wike’s membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, the President singled him out for commendation, noting that his accomplishments in the FCT had strengthened the APC’s fortunes at the polls.

“President Tinubu commends the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his remarkable achievements in the territory, which have yielded political dividends to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The President congratulates the APC national leadership, Kano and Rivers leaderships, and all members of the party on the victories at the polls.

“President Tinubu lauds the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and voters for the peaceful and successful conduct of the elections.

“He further commends the courage and discipline displayed by all the contestants, stating that democracy is enriched with the vibrancy of participation and competition”, the statement reads.

While describing the elections as a boost to Nigeria’s democratic development, the President reiterated that the exercise reinforces democratic institutions and culture.

He also called on “INEC to continue improving its efforts to deliver even more exemplary electoral processes.”
