A 23-year-old student of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Jatau Shebah Rilokwah, was found dead in an apparent suicide.

The incident occurred on April 27, 2025, at the university’s senior staff quarters, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.

Rilokwah was discovered hanging from the ceiling by a university security officer, Emmanuel Gyawo.

Gyawo had been asked by Rilokwah’s father, Professor Shedrack Jatau, to check on his son after repeated failed calls.

Professor Jatau was reportedly out of town when he requested the welfare check.

Upon entering the residence, Gyawo found Rilokwah unresponsive and immediately raised an alarm.

The Divisional Crime Officer from Angwan Lambu led a police team to the scene for investigation.

No suicide note was found, and there were no visible signs of physical violence on the body, authorities said.

Rilokwah was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

His body has since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of his death.

Sources within the university community described Rilokwah as quiet and reserved.

Students and staff have expressed shock and sadness over the tragedy.

The university is yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

Mental health advocates have renewed calls for increased awareness and support services on campuses.

Police say the investigation remains active as they await autopsy and forensic reports.

This is a developing story.

More details shortly.
