Abuja, Nigeria – February 4, 2025– The Federal Executive Council (FEC), led by President Bola Tinubu, has approved a significant investment of N242.68 billion.
This funding will support the rehabilitation, rescoping, and construction of 14 major road projects across Nigeria.
David Umahi, the Minister of Works, announced this decision during a press briefing after the council’s meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
Umahi emphasized that this approval plays a crucial role in the administration’s “renewed hope agenda.”
This agenda focuses on reassessing and completing infrastructure projects inherited from previous administrations.
He also highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure, aiming to foster economic growth and improve connectivity among states.
The Minister provided a detailed breakdown of the approved projects and their allocated budgets. Notable projects include the Agaie-Katcha-Baro Road in Niger State, which received N22 billion awarded to Messers GR Building Construction Limited.
Additionally, the government allocated N26.335 billion to Samatech for the Odukpani Junction on the Calabar-Ikom-Ogoja Road in Cross River State.
Other significant projects include the Abeokuta-Ajibo Road and Iyana Mosa Road in Ogun State, with N10.89 billion for Messers HM Construction Limited. Furthermore, the Inoma-Iyaka-Abaji Section of the Ibaji-Odulu-Ajibu Road in Anambra State received N9.33 billion awarded to Niger Cat. The Umuahia-Ituano-Ikot Ekpene Road in Abia State was allocated N14.37 billion for Heartland Reckon Construction Company.
The Kaduna-Jos Road (Phase One) in Kaduna and Plateau States received N33.423 billion awarded to Setraco.
Additionally, the government allocated N11.81 billion to WisChina Worldwide Engineering Limited for the Yola-Fufure Road project in Adamawa State.
The Ijebu-Ibutita Ebe Road in Ogun State received N13 billion for Aretha Construction Limited.
Moreover, the Amido Road in Taraba State was awarded N7.68 billion to Messers Mode Limited. Other projects include the Nkomoro-Isu Road in Enugu and Ebonyi States, the Aba-Owerri Road Dualization via Ikot Ekpene Border, Gashua-Bayamari Road (Section Two) in Yobe State, and the Ikorodu-Shagamu Road (Phase One of Lagos-Ibadan Road).
Umahi also announced a N7 billion allocation for the rescoping of the AK Bypass, which Ghitto Construction Limited will execute.
He emphasized how crucial it is to finish these important road projects by April, aiming to meet commissioning deadlines.
In doing so, he highlighted the government’s dedication to enhancing Nigeria’s road infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the council decided to push back the approval of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) headquarters, needing more review.
This recent decision comes after the FEC’s earlier approval on January 3, 2025, which allocated N885 billion for 10 road projects.
As infrastructure investment grows, both stakeholders and citizens will closely watch how these developments affect the economy and transportation systems.
