The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared public holidays for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Thursday, December 25, 2025, and Friday, December 26, 2025, are holidays for Christmas and Boxing Day, respectively.
Additionally, Thursday, January 1, 2026, is a public holiday for New Year’s Day.
The declaration was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to reflect on values like love, peace, and humility during the festive season.
He also called for prayers for national peace, security, and progress, regardless of faith or ethnicity.
Tunji-Ojo advised citizens to remain law-abiding and security-conscious during celebrations, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.
