The Federal Government has officially announced Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays in Nigeria.

These dates are set aside to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration, one of Islam’s most revered festivals.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) confirms that the declaration was made by Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a formal statement.

The announcement was issued on behalf of the Federal Government and was signed by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.

In the statement, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm congratulations to Muslims in Nigeria and across the globe as they prepare to commemorate the significant religious event.

He highlighted the essence of Eid-ul-Adha, emphasizing values such as sacrifice, obedience, and unwavering faith.

These values, he noted, were exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him), whose devotion to God serves as a cornerstone of the Eid observance.

The minister encouraged Muslims to embody these virtues not just during the festive season but in their daily lives.

He also urged all Nigerians to take advantage of this spiritual season to offer prayers for national unity and prosperity.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated that this period presents a unique opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s collective responsibility toward peace and development.

He further stressed that the Eid celebration should be a time for all citizens, regardless of religious beliefs, to support the efforts of the current administration.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is built on a foundation of reforms aimed at national revival.

The minister maintained that these policies are already beginning to reposition the country for long-term growth and socioeconomic stability.

He appealed to Nigerians to support these initiatives by contributing positively to the rebuilding process of the nation.

“Let us join hands to restore the glory of Nigeria as a great nation,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo declared.

He also used the opportunity to remind the public of the importance of religious harmony and national solidarity.

The holiday announcement is expected to enable Muslims across the country to fulfill their religious obligations, including the symbolic animal sacrifice and community welfare activities associated with Eid-ul-Adha.

This year’s celebration comes at a time when Nigeria is undergoing major transitions in governance, economic reform, and national dialogue.

As millions of Muslims prepare for the festivities, the government’s gesture is seen as an effort to foster inclusion and respect for Nigeria’s diverse religious heritage.

The Federal Government has consistently recognized Eid-ul-Adha as a public holiday to give Muslims adequate time to observe the festival.

Many Islamic clerics and community leaders have welcomed the announcement, noting its significance for faith-based unity and interreligious respect.

Security agencies are also expected to be on high alert during the period to ensure peaceful celebrations across the country.

In major cities like Lagos, Kano, Abuja, and Kaduna, arrangements are already underway for congregational prayers, charity drives, and family gatherings.

The Ministry of Interior, through its official communication channels, reiterated its call for law-abiding celebrations.

Citizens have also been urged to maintain environmental cleanliness during the holiday period, especially in areas where animal sacrifices will take place.

Public service operations and businesses are expected to resume fully on Tuesday, June 10, following the conclusion of the holiday.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.

It is marked by special prayers, feasting, sharing of meat, and acts of kindness, particularly to the less privileged.

In Nigeria, it is often a time for large family reunions, social visits, and extensive humanitarian gestures from religious and community leaders.

This year’s holiday, therefore, represents not only a spiritual obligation but also a national moment for reflection and renewed commitment to unity.

The Federal Government has expressed hope that the solemnity of the period will translate into a stronger, more cohesive Nigerian society.

With economic, social, and security challenges facing the nation, leaders are optimistic that shared values and faith can form the bedrock of progress.

As preparations for Eid-ul-Adha intensify, many citizens are expected to travel across the country to celebrate with family and friends.

Transportation agencies have been urged to ensure safe and affordable movement during the holiday rush.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) will continue to monitor developments and provide timely updates as the celebrations unfold across Nigeria.
