FG declares thursday public holiday for workers’ day celebration

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Workers’ Day.

The announcement came through the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Tuesday.

He said the holiday is to honour Nigerian workers for their hard work and national contribution.

Tunji-Ojo praised workers for their sacrifices in building the country’s economy.

He said Nigerian workers have contributed to internal development and international recognition.

According to him, their commitment has helped drive national progress despite challenges.

He urged workers to embrace peace as a tool for industrial growth.

The minister said peace is necessary for Nigeria’s economic stability and industrialisation.

He called on workers to adopt innovation in their duties.

Tunji-Ojo stressed that productivity and creativity are crucial for national advancement.

He said, “There is dignity in labour and honour in commitment to duty.”

He added that national development depends on every citizen’s input.

The minister reassured citizens of the government’s commitment to safety and stability.

He said President Bola Tinubu’s administration prioritises the protection of all residents.

He noted that both citizens and foreigners deserve security across the country.

While congratulating workers, he encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful.

Tunji-Ojo stated that the Renewed Hope Agenda is fully on course.

He said the government is determined to meet the expectations of the people.

He also urged workers to raise their standards of performance.

He said improved service delivery will boost governance in the country.

Tunji-Ojo added that professionalism can help citizens benefit more from national resources.

He encouraged all Nigerians to uphold unity and progress.

The minister said Workers’ Day is a time to reflect on national growth.
