
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has finally spoken up in condemnation of abduction of women which occurred recently in Borno State, saying the act is “atrocious and cowardly”.
Elombah.com had, on June 21, reported that Boko Haram kidnapped 16 Nigerian police women in Maiduguri on the fateful day.
The report said that the terrorist group ambushed a convoy of the police women 10 kilometers from Maiduguri and whisked them away.
Consequently, 16 of the officers were declared missing, while two are reportedly dead.
On July 17, the terrorists released a new video of the ten abducted police women near Maiduguri, Borno State, begging the government for rescue from captivity.
Speaking in a State House press release, released by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Acting President, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo sympathised with the families of the abducted women.
He assures that the Federal Government will spare no efforts to ensure the safe and speedy return of all the victims.
The Acting President has therefore directed Nigeria’s military and intelligence agencies to take all necessary steps including coordinating with our international partners to rescue the abducted women.
He also tasked them to ensure further tightening of security in and around Borno State.
The Buhari presidency assures that the ongoing efforts of security agencies will include the establishment of additional military and police bases in parts of the country.
Osinbajo as well assured that the improved intelligence gathering will continue.
He commended some of the recent significant breakthroughs in combating kidnapping and banditry in the country.
