FG Promotes 95 Top Officers, Launches July 14 Recruitment

The Federal Government has approved the promotion of 95 senior officers across four paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the promotion affects personnel in the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The announcement was made on Friday, July 11, 2025, by the Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Major General A.M. Jibril (Rtd.), at the Board Secretariat in Abuja.

He spoke on behalf of the Board Chairman and Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to Maj. Gen. Jibril, the promotions span from the ranks of Controllers, Comptrollers, and Commandants to Assistant Controllers-General, Assistant Comptrollers-General, and Assistant Commandants-General, respectively.

Promotion Breakdown by Agency:

  • Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS):
    • 4 officers promoted from Assistant Controller-General (ACG) to Deputy Controller-General (DCG).
    • 31 officers promoted from Controller of Corrections (CC) to ACG.
  • Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS):
    • 6 officers moved from ACG to DCG.
    • 20 officers rose from Comptroller of Immigration (CI) to ACG.
  • Federal Fire Service (FFS):
    • 3 officers promoted from ACG to DCG.
    • 2 Controllers promoted to ACG.
  • Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC):
    • 3 officers elevated from ACG to DCG.
    • 22 Commandants promoted to ACG.

In addition, the CDCFIB also approved the creation of a committee tasked with designing a harmonised Scheme of Service for the four paramilitary agencies.

Disciplinary Cases Handled

The Board also deliberated on 224 disciplinary cases involving officers in the four agencies.

Actions taken included dismissals, compulsory retirements, rejections of appeals, exonerations, warning letters, and loss of seniority.

The breakdown of the cases is as follows:

  • NCoS – 143 cases
  • NIS – 31 cases
  • FFS – 4 cases
  • NSCDC – 46 cases

Recruitment to Begin July 14

The Board announced that online applications for recruitment into the four paramilitary services and the Board Secretariat will officially commence on Monday, July 14, 2025.

Applicants are advised to avoid scammers and are assured of a “seamless and transparent” recruitment process.

The CDCFIB also approved a timeline for the 2025 promotion exercise, scheduled to run from August to November 2025.

While congratulating the newly promoted officers, Maj. Gen. Jibril reminded them that “to whom much is given, much is expected,” urging them to demonstrate competence and professionalism in their new positions.

He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to merit, discipline, and transparency, aligning with broader national reforms in the civil and security services.
