The newly appointed Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has announced the abolition of the 18-year admission benchmark for higher institutions across the nation.
Tunji Alausa who disclosed this during his inaugural press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, also announced plans to review the nation’s education policy.
Speaking further, Alausa reaffirmed that there will be no reversal of the Federal Government’s recent decision to invalidate over 22,700 degree certificates obtained by Nigerians from certain “fake” universities in neighboring Togo and the Benin Republic.
This move aims to uphold the integrity of the nation’s education system.
Alausa said practical education will help to address the unemployment situation in Nigeria, as tertiary institutions will not continue to churn out graduates every year without providing jobs for them.
The Federal Government, he revealed, will collaborate with private sector operators to train students and unleash their potential.
Alausa said universities of agriculture will be empowered to adopt commercial farming practices to combat food insecurity.
