The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, has announced a major railway expansion.

He said the federal government will soon unveil a plan that connects more cities than previously achieved, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports.

He explained that the initiative is part of broader transport reforms under the current administration.

According to him, the federal government is actively supporting states to build and operate their own railway systems.

He revealed that Lagos State is already utilising track access on the Red Line project.

Kaduna State is expected to join the railway initiative very soon, he noted.

Niger State is also supporting the NRC in maintaining narrow-gauge lines, despite challenges like recent flooding in Mokwa.

Dr. Opeifa mentioned that the plan was to reach Minna, Ilorin, and Offa during the last festive season.

Flooding in some parts of Niger State caused delays to that specific rail extension plan.

He added that Ogun State has also developed rail connections to support regional mobility and development.

In Plateau State, a new project, the Jos–Bukuru railway line, is currently under development.

He explained that these advancements are possible because rail was removed from the exclusive to the concurrent legislative list.

With this constitutional amendment, states can now develop rail projects independently or in partnership with the federal government.

Dr. Opeifa noted that the federal government is backing this shift with financial grants.

He revealed that the current national budget allocated ₦400 billion to support state-level railway development.

Some states have already received funding and begun implementation of their railway projects, he confirmed.

He stressed that this policy relieves the federal government from bearing the full responsibility of rail development.

Still, the federal government remains committed to connecting all major Nigerian cities through a national rail network.

He assured citizens that rail infrastructure development is ongoing across all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

According to him, the South-West’s development plan is nearly finalised and will soon be launched.

There is also tangible progress in the South-East and North-East regions, he said.

He emphasised the administration’s commitment to regional integration through improved transport systems.

Meanwhile, thousands of companies globally are laying off workers due to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI).

AI is rapidly changing industries, and no sector appears immune to its impact, experts warn.

Many business owners are panicking over AI’s disruptive potential to replace human roles and restructure operations.

This technological shift has created uncertainty for workers and companies alike in both developed and developing nations.

As a solution, digital experts advise Nigerians to explore online income opportunities that pay in foreign currency.

They recommend earning in US dollars, up to $55,000 annually, while residing in Nigeria or across the diaspora.

Digital skills like coding, design, and content creation are now in high demand globally, experts noted.

Remote work offers Nigerians a chance to access stable incomes despite domestic economic challenges.

This emerging trend provides financial security and reduces dependence on the local job market.

As Nigeria builds physical infrastructure, individuals can also build digital livelihoods in today’s global economy.

The dual focus on national development and individual empowerment presents a powerful vision for Nigeria’s future.
