The Federal Government has withdrawn the criminal defamation case against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The notice of discontinuance was filed by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) on December 12, 2025, citing sections 108(1), 108(2)(a), and 108(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

The charges were brought against Akpoti-Uduaghan following petitions by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, alleging she accused them of plotting to eliminate her.

Despite her petition to the Inspector General of Police about threats to her life, she was charged with criminal defamation and cyberbullying.

This withdrawn case is one of two initiated by the Federal Government against Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The second case may also be discontinued, as Akpabio has pledged to withdraw all defamation-related lawsuits.
