FIFA robot referees to officiate at club world cup
FIFA, the world football governing body has made plans to push the live trials of the “limb tracking” technology developed to make off-side calls in the club world cup.
Special cameras that will be attached to the stadium roofs will be used to create a ‘limb-tracking system’, creating animated skeletons that will help speed up the decision-making process in regards to offside calls.
Its success at the club world cup would determine its availability at the World Cup.
This recent development by the world football governing body would make Chelsea the first premier league club to make use of the new technological marvel.
Fifa’s football technology and innovation director, Johannes Holzmuller, in a statement said, “When the ball is played, the real-time AI software can send a signal automatically to the VAR.
“We will have a committed assistant VAR who can process the offside data and help determine if the player deemed to be offside was active and interfering with play, so they can swiftly validate and confirm the decision.”
