Germany thrashed Fiji 10-0 in the ongoing Rio Olympics 2016 to advance to the knockout stages of the Games.

Arsenal midfielder Serge Gnabry made it five goals in three Olympic matches haven scored twice to seal Fiji’s fate.

In their earlier matches, South Korea hammered them a resounding 8-0, while Mexico took home a 5-1 win

The Germany Olympic men’s football squad has a lot to live up to after the senior team lifted the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

They, however, headed into the game against Fiji needing a big score to progress from Group C after two draws from their opening two matches.

Gnabry had netted in the 2-2 draw with London 2012 gold medalists Mexico.

He also scored in the 3-3 thriller with South Korea.

He opened the scoring at the Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte, turning home Julian Brandt’s assist early on.

Nils Petersen scored the second with his first of five goals, with Max Meyer then netting en route to a hat-trick of his own.

Petersen completed his treble before the break with Gnabry making it six going into the second half.

Two more goals from Meyer and another double from Petersen completing the rout.

It could have been even worse for Fiji had goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau not saved a penalty to deny Meyer his fourth of the game as Germany coasted to victory.

Also in the news: Neymar’s Brazil thrashed Denmark 4-0 to secure place in knock out stages.
