Fintiri impose 24 hrs curfew in Adamawa over looting of fuel subsidy palliatives

The governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on the state, following activities of suspected criminals.

Hoodlums this medium gathered, reportedly broke into some warehouses in the state capital, Yola, to loot fuel subsidy palliatives belonging to the state.

But in a statement issued by the chief press secretary to the governor on Sunday, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the decision was as a result of the dangerous dimension the activities of hoodlums had assumed across the state capital.

Mr Wonosikou explained that the hoodlums attacked people with machetes and broke into business premises, carting away property.

“The Governor of Adamawa State, the Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has declared a 24-hour curfew on the state, effective immediately Sunday 30th July, 2023.

“With the curfew imposed, there will be no movement throughout the state,” the statement said.

The governor said only those on essential duties with valid identification would be permitted to move around during the period of the curfew.

He therefore appealed to citizens and residents of the state to comply with the directive, adding that any person found contravening the order would be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law.
