Fire Guts FIRS Headquarters in Abuja

A fire outbreak caused by an electrical fault has damaged parts of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) headquarters in Abuja.

The incident occurred on Saturday and affected several offices on the fourth floor of the building. The management of FIRS confirmed the fire in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

According to the agency, the fire was detected early by on-duty security personnel, who immediately took steps to contain the situation before it escalated.

Emergency responders, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, arrived promptly and successfully brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the building.

FIRS stated that no lives were lost in the incident, although a number of offices sustained damage as a result of the fire.

Preliminary findings indicate that the outbreak may have been caused by an electrical fault, while a full investigation is still ongoing.

The agency added that it has begun a review of its internal safety measures and plans to strengthen existing protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
