FIRS 2016 budget’s. Pads  with over N12 billion

Facts emerged on Thursday how the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) padded 2016 budget with over N12 billion.

This is even as the ‎ Senate dumped the report presented by its Committee on Finance on FIRS Budget over infractions  in the budget proposal total N143 billion.

The rejected budget’s recommendation o‎f Senate Committee on Finance showed that N700 million was budgeted on Vehicle, N750 million on fuel generator, N200 million on sporting activities, N1.560 billion on purchase of office equipment‎, Electricity N500 million, Telephone N320 milli‎on.

The report stated that‎ the agency earmarked N530 Million computer materials, N960 million computer equipment and also spend 586 million on refreshment in the 2016 budget.

Others are N4.4 billion to be spent on both locals and international training, N885 million to be spent on office rent, N170 million to be spent on maintenance of generator‎, N530 Million budgeted on computer materials and supplies, N250 million security votes, Security services N683.

Office materials and supplies -N3.34‎ billion, Library books and periodicals -N 68 million,Printing of non security documents – N1.9 billion , Printing of security documents -N 250, million‎,Maintenance of office furniture and equipment- N 90 million

It also includes‎, Legal services-N 500,000,000,Hire of hall, accommodation and events -N 350,000,000,Honorarium and sitting allowance payments- N150,000,000,Publicity, advert and taxpayers education-, N 200,000,000,000, Medical expenditure- N700,000,000, Postages and courier services- N 244,000,000, Welfare packages- N681,000,000, Tax audit investigation and monitoring- N 2,500,000,000, Tax investigation- N500,000,000

The 2016 FIRS Budget shows an increase of N25 billion in personnel cost while the overhead cost also rose by N13 billion from 2015 and 2016.

‎FIRS has a revenue projection of N4.36 trillion for 2015 but was only able to generate N3.7 trillion.

However, after the discovery of various infractions‎ in the Committee report, Senate directed to committee to go and rework the FIRS budget.
