Flood sweeps away primary 6 pupil in Lagos

A primary six pupil named master Joshua was swept away by flood in the Ikosi, Ketu area of Lagos State.

The unfortunate incident occurred while Joshua was returning home from school with his friends.

Joshua’s mother, a fruit seller, expressed her grief over losing her only child.

“Joshua died hungry and cold. He was in primary six; he was supposed to write his common entrance exam,” she told Daily Trust.

A witness, Oloyede, who is a youth leader in the area, recounted seeing children in the rain and warning them to be cautious due to the dangerous conditions.

Despite his warning, the children attempted to cross a plank bridge that was submerged by the floodwaters, causing them to fall into the drainage.

Oloyede managed to rescue one of the children, but Joshua was swept away by the strong currents and did not survive.

A community leader, speaking anonymously, criticized the government for neglecting a project to improve the drainage system, which has left the area vulnerable to flooding.
