Forgery: Court adjourns trial of Senate President, ors

Senate President Bukola Saraki and Deputy Senator Ike Ekweremadu

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned the trial brought against the Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki and three others.

Joined in the suit are:

1. Deputy Senator Ike Ekweremadu, 

2. former Clerk of the National Assembly Salisu Maikasuwa and,

3. current Deputy-Clerk of the National Assembly Mr. Benedict Efeturi.

All the accused persons were in court for the commencement of hearing in the case which was fixed for Monday, July 11, 2016.

However, the Court Registrar informed parties that the court is on vacation, hence the case will be adjourned.

Speaking to journalist shortly after the adjournment, the Counsel to the Senate President, that his client and the co-accused persons are ready for trial.

He maintained, though, that they must obey the orders of the court.

On his part the prosecuting counsel Mr. Aliyu Umar says he was also ready for trial but had to succumb to the orders of the court.

Mr. Umar is taking over the case from the Director of Public Prosecution in the Ministry of Justice, 

The trial is adjourned for the September 28, 2016, when the court would have resumed from its annual vacation.
