Retired Lt Gen. Jeremiah Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has died. He passed away on Thursday at 82 after battling a prolonged illness.
Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs for Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, announced his death in a statement from Jos.
Bere emphasized that the loss extends beyond Useni’s family, impacting the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the entire nation.
In a heartfelt statement on X (Twitter), the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction expressed:
“It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of General Jeremiah Useni, a distinguished leader, patriot, and true son of Plateau State.
The former FCT Minister’s passing is a monumental loss to our state, the nation, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
Governor Mutfwang highlighted Useni’s significant contributions, noting his lasting impact on Nigeria’s security and political landscape.
His tireless efforts to promote peace and security, particularly in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State, left an indelible mark.
The Minister continued, acknowledging Useni’s remarkable contributions:
“His legacy as a military officer, parliamentarian, public servant, and statesman stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the betterment of our people and our land.”
In his statement, the governor prayed for strength and fortitude for Useni’s family, Plateau State, and the nation.
He also sought God’s divine presence to comfort those grieving this irreplaceable loss in the days ahead.
