The former Governor of Adamawa State and ex-Senator for Adamawa North, Mohammed Umaru Bindow Jibrilla, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Bindow formally registered and collected his ADC membership card in Mubi North Local Government Area on July 28, 2025.

This move marks his departure from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which he had joined after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) in January 2023.

Bindow cited unresolved internal crises within the PDP as a key reason for his decision to leave the party.

He expressed gratitude for the opportunities the PDP had given him but felt it was time to pursue other political and personal commitments aligned with his current priorities.

Bindow’s defection is seen as a significant boost to the ADC’s growing influence in Adamawa State.

His experience and reputation as a business tycoon and politician are expected to play a pivotal role in mobilizing support for the party in the region.

The ADC has been gaining traction in Adamawa State, with notable figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Senator Aisha Binani joining the party.

Bindow’s defection further strengthens the ADC’s position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As a key figure in the ADC, Bindow is expected to leverage his influence to drive development and champion the party’s agenda in Adamawa State.

His membership in the ADC comes with opportunities for civic engagement, including contesting elections and shaping the party’s policy agenda.

Bindow served as Governor of Adamawa State from 2015 to 2019, during which he implemented various initiatives to promote development and growth in the state.

Before becoming governor, Bindow represented Adamawa North in the Senate from 2011 to 2015.

He was known for his advocacy on issues affecting the region and his efforts to promote development.

Apart from politics, Bindow is a successful businessman with interests in various sectors. He has established several companies in Mubi, creating jobs and contributing to the local economy.

Bindow’s defection to the ADC is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.

With his experience and influence, he is expected to play a key role in mobilizing support for the party.

The ADC’s growing momentum, coupled with Bindow’s defection, suggests that the party is positioning itself as a viable alternative to the ruling APC and the PDP.

The party’s ability to attract high-profile defectors like Bindow could significantly impact the outcome of the 2027 elections .

Already, former vice president, Atiku Abubakar and the 2023 governorship flagbearer of the APC in the state, Senator Aisha Binani have joined the ADC.
