Four Years More Than Enough’: Peter Obi Submits Single-Term Proposal to Coalition

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has declared that he will serve only one term in office if elected Nigeria’s president in the 2027 general election.

The revelation was made on Tuesday, July 1, by Dr. Yinusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, during a traditional title conferment ceremony in Abuja, where Obi was honoured with the title ‘Sarki Maskan’ (War Hero).

According to Tanko, Obi’s single-term offer has already been formally submitted to the opposition coalition, a growing alliance of political parties and figures seeking to unseat the APC in the next election.

“We have presented it to the coalition. It is there for them to make a decision,” Tanko said. “But we are confident it can work. This is a pronouncement rooted in integrity, and Peter Obi embodies that.”

Tanko said Obi believes that four years is sufficient to implement critical reforms and restore hope in Nigeria.

“Even though a single term is not enshrined in the constitution, Obi is making a personal commitment. He believes four years is more than enough to accomplish his mission,” he said.

The former Anambra governor, widely regarded for his pragmatic governance style, reportedly views a single-term presidency as a strategic approach to fast-track reforms without political distractions or re-election calculations.

Tanko also outlined some of Obi’s proposed priorities if elected president. Chief among them are:

Stabilizing power supply

Reviving the economy through industrial exports

Transforming Nigeria into a production-based economy

“Even stabilising electricity alone will solve a multitude of problems. Under his leadership, planes will no longer leave Nigeria empty. We will export again,” Tanko stated.

Obi previously reaffirmed his position during a recent live X Spaces broadcast, where he declared his intention to run in 2027 under a broader coalition.

During that session, he repeated his one-term pledge, which has since generated intense debate across political circles.

Obi’s bold commitment has positioned him as a central figure in the 2027 opposition realignment, especially as top leaders from PDP, ADC, LP, and SDP continue to explore a unified front.
