Grammy Award-winning singer John Legend has voiced concern over Kanye West’s dramatic transformation in recent years.

In a recent interview, Legend reflected on his early collaboration with West, calling the change “sad” and “sometimes shocking.”, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports.

He recalled their work together on his debut album Get Lifted, which was released in 2004 under West’s GOOD Music label.

West served as executive producer alongside Dave Tozer, will.i.am, and Devo Springsteen.

The album was a commercial and critical success, selling over three million copies and winning three Grammy Awards.

Legend credits West’s creative influence as instrumental to his early rise to stardom.

At the time, West was also gaining fame for his own debut album The College Dropout.

He was widely seen as a visionary artist with a fresh and distinctive voice in hip-hop.

Legend described the West of that era as “passionate, gifted, and full of optimism.”

“He had big dreams for himself and the people around him,” Legend added.

But he noted a stark contrast between the Kanye he once knew and the person seen today.

“It does feel sad, sometimes shocking, to see where he is now,” Legend remarked.

West has become a controversial figure in recent years due to his public behavior and extreme statements.

He has faced backlash for wearing a black Ku Klux Klan hood in public.

He has also sold merchandise featuring swastika logos, sparking global outrage.

Several social media platforms have banned West for spreading offensive and inflammatory remarks.

Legend said, “I didn’t see a hint of what we’re seeing now, his obsessions with antisemitism, anti-Blackness.”

He called it a disturbing departure from the man he once knew and respected.

Legend believes the loss of West’s mother, Donda West, in 2007 may have triggered this decline.

“After his mother passed in 2007, there was definitely a difference,” he said.

He emphasized that he’s not qualified to psychoanalyze West but noticed a clear shift after her death.

“His descent started then and seems to have accelerated recently,” Legend observed.

The singer’s comments echo growing concerns over West’s behavior and public persona.

Many fans and former collaborators have distanced themselves from the rapper in recent years.

Legend’s remarks offer a rare, personal insight into West’s transformation over two decades.

From Grammy glory to public disgrace, Kanye West’s fall from grace continues to stir debate and concern.

Legend ended his reflections with a tone of sadness and disbelief at the path West has taken.

As the world watches West spiral further, many are left wondering what happened to the artist he once was.

The contrast between the past and present Kanye West has never felt more profound, or more painful.

John Legend’s words now add another layer to the ongoing controversy surrounding the troubled artist.

Will Kanye West ever find redemption, or is this the final chapter in his creative legacy?
