Jeremy Meeks, popularly known as the “Hot Felon,” has continued to reflect on the life-changing moment that turned him from an incarcerated gang member into an international model and public figure.
In 2014, Meeks was arrested in Stockton, California during a multi-agency gang operation carried out by the Stockton Police Department. Like many departments, police shared his booking photo online but what followed was anything but typical. His mugshot quickly went viral across social media platforms, drawing global attention due to his striking features. Within days, he became one of the most talked-about faces on the internet.
While the viral fame might have seemed superficial, Meeks has explained that the impact behind bars was very real. According to him, he began receiving an overwhelming amount of attention while still serving his sentence. He reported getting up to 300 letters a day from people across the world. These ranged from fan messages and explicit photos to serious business inquiries, including offers from modeling agencies and film industry contacts.
One of the most significant turning points during this period was signing with a management agency while still incarcerated. This was a rare move, considering his situation at the time, but it showed how much industry interest had built around him purely from his viral image.
After serving his sentence, Meeks was released in 2016 and immediately stepped into a completely different world. Rather than returning to his past lifestyle, he transitioned directly into the fashion industry. He made his runway debut at New York Fashion Week, one of the most prestigious platforms in global fashion, marking a dramatic shift from his previous life.
Since then, Meeks has worked with several international fashion brands, appeared in campaigns, and expanded into acting and public appearances. His transformation from a member of the Crips to a recognized figure in fashion and entertainment has been widely discussed as an example of how social media can unexpectedly reshape someone’s life trajectory.
Meeks has also spoken about leaving behind gang affiliations and focusing on building a legitimate career. He has emphasized that while the viral moment opened the door, the responsibility to change his life and maintain those opportunities was entirely his.
His story continues to spark debate as some viewed it as a tale of redemption and second chances, while others question the circumstances that led to his rise. Regardless of perspective, the facts remain clear: a single image shared online in 2014 altered the course of Jeremy Meeks’ life, taking him from a prison cell to international runways in just a few years.
