PVC Initiative for Good Governance Diaspora (PIGGD) has called on Nigerians to shelve the planned nationwide hunger protest against the administration of President Bola Tinubu, adding that the protest is not of good purpose or justified yet.
The group in a statement admitted that there is hardship in the country, and that the president Tinubu must step up to the challenges.
It stated that disruptive protest is not the way forward.
Recall that Nigerians had been planning to embark on a nation wide protest tagged #EndBadGovernance.
Though, the protest which has no definite purpose, is rumoured to pressure the government to do something about the living condition of Nigerians and other sundry issues in the country.
According to the president of PVC Initiative for Good Governance Diaspora, Comrade Wisdom Opara, also known as Chukwuemeziem Ekete, the protest has no justifiable purpose.
“So, what is the bad policy the protest is aiming to address? What is the bad decision President Bola Amed Tinubu took that the protest wants him to drop? What exactly is the purpose of the protest? We have not seen the reason or the end point, we want those planning the protest to speak with us and tell us about it”
The pro-democracy group said they are not shielding the administration from blame or protecting it from civil action, but trying to bring justice, and asking for time for the administration to prove itself.
“This administration is new, it just started and it deserves its time to prove itself. No administration will go on and perform magic, it takes a process and it’s about time. What time have we given this administration to justify a protest? The country was damaged by the past governments, this administration is fighting to make things work” the statement said.
“Nigerians can protest, we support it, but such protest should be justified” the statement said.
The statement which was made available to newsmen further questioned the motive of the protest.
“This nationwide protest is more a political witch-hunt. It’s not a show of patriotism. There is political undertone to it. More partisan than patriotic”
Comrade Wisdom Opara further called on Nigerians to trust the process and be patient.
“I see impatient even if this disruptive protest is not arranged by the opposition. We are all in this together, we want solution, but this protest is not a solution. This is a witch-hunt the youths fell for, because this idea was brought up by just a few” the president of the group said.
The statement finally pleaded on the youths to consider the good of the country and citizens that would be victims of the protest.
“Nigerians need to be united now more than ever. The youths should not fall for political motives. The youths should consider the safety of the citizens and their businesses. This protest is not justified, its a political witch-hunt” the statement said.
