Nigerian afro-house singer Niniola has announced the death of her husband, Michael Ndika, marking the end of a 13-year relationship she kept largely out of the public eye.
The Grammy-nominated artiste, whose full name is Niniola Apata, disclosed the news in a series of emotional posts shared via her Instagram story in the early hours of Wednesday.
“God took him,” she wrote in her first post.
She followed it up shortly after with a more direct statement: “My husband died.”
In a third post, the singer expressed the depth of her grief, writing: “God took him. 13 years. 13 f*ing years.”**
Ndika, before his death, was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on afro-house and contemporary African music.
Niniola had, throughout her career, kept her marriage private, rarely speaking publicly about her husband or their relationship. Her decision to shield her personal life from the spotlight stood in contrast to the often public nature of celebrity relationships within the entertainment industry.
The announcement has since drawn reactions from fans and colleagues, many of whom have expressed condolences and sympathy over her loss.
The couple’s 13-year relationship, though largely unseen by the public, is now being acknowledged as a significant part of the singer’s personal life.
As of the time of this report, further details surrounding his death have not been made public.
