Gov. Abiodun Rewards Super Falcons With ₦50m Gift

(DDM) – Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced a ₦50 million cash reward for Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, in recognition of their outstanding performance and to further motivate them ahead of upcoming tournaments.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the governor made the announcement during a special reception held at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, where he hosted members of the Super Falcons and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Abiodun described the Super Falcons as true ambassadors of the nation, commending their resilience, teamwork, and consistency in bringing glory to Nigeria on the global stage.

According to the governor, “The Super Falcons have continued to make us proud as a nation. Their courage, skill, and determination exemplify the true Nigerian spirit.

This token of ₦50 million is a demonstration of our appreciation and a call for them to keep pushing harder.”

He further noted that Ogun State would continue to support sports development at all levels, particularly in empowering women in sports through education, training, and incentives.

DDM reports that the Super Falcons have maintained their dominance in African women’s football, with multiple Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) titles and consistent appearances at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Speaking on behalf of the team, captain Onome Ebi expressed gratitude to the governor for the recognition and encouragement, noting that the gesture would go a long way in boosting the players’ morale and commitment to future competitions.

She said, “We are deeply grateful to Governor Abiodun and the people of Ogun State for this support. It shows that our efforts are being appreciated and it motivates us to keep giving our best for Nigeria.”

Sports analysts told DDM that Governor Abiodun’s reward reflects a growing trend among Nigerian leaders to recognize female athletes, marking a positive step toward promoting gender equality and appreciation in sports.

The event ended with a symbolic presentation of the ₦50 million cheque to the team, as chants of “Up Super Falcons!” filled the air in celebration of Nigeria’s most successful national football side.
