The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has taken decisive steps to strengthen security in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the governor, acting in response to growing fears of criminal activity of the fulani terrorists in the region, has dispatched 56 operatives of the Nigerian Mobile Police Force, alongside officers of the state’s Distress Response Squad (DRS), to the area.

The deployment includes 14 patrol vehicles, among which is a gun truck fitted with heavy-duty security equipment designed for high-risk zones.

This intervention follows recent developments suggesting an increase in threats to life and property in the rural communities of Uzo-Uwani, which shares borders with Kogi and Anambra States, regions in Nigeria that have witnessed spillover of violent crimes in the past.

Historically, Uzo-Uwani has been a flashpoint for security concerns due to its difficult terrain, vast forests, and porous borders that provide cover for criminal elements.

In 2016, the area made national headlines following deadly attacks carried out by suspected terrorist herders, leaving several residents dead and many displaced.

Governor Mbah’s latest action is seen as a continuation of his administration’s vow to prioritize rural security and ensure no community is left unprotected.

Upon arrival, the security teams were officially received by the Chairman of Uzo-Uwani LGA, Hon. Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu, who expressed gratitude to the governor for the swift and deliberate deployment.

Hon. Ezugwu hailed the proactive steps taken by Dr. Mbah as evidence of genuine commitment to the safety of lives and livelihoods in the local government.

He used the occasion to call on residents to remain security-conscious and to support the operations of the newly deployed personnel.

The chairman advised communities to organize themselves to monitor minor roads and pathways within their domains, both during the day and at night.

He noted that many criminal operations in the area have historically occurred through such lesser-known routes that are often unguarded.

Security experts have welcomed the deployment, describing it as a significant deterrent to criminal infiltration and a morale booster for affected communities.

Locals have also reacted positively to the development, stating that the visible presence of security agents and equipment has restored a measure of confidence.

Some residents called on the state government to consider long-term strategies that include building permanent police outposts and investing in local vigilante training.

The Enugu State Police Command is expected to provide operational oversight and conduct periodic evaluations of the deployment’s effectiveness.

Governor Mbah has consistently emphasized that his administration will adopt a comprehensive approach to security, one that includes intelligence gathering, rapid response, and inter-agency collaboration.

Civil society groups and media organizations have praised the move and pledged to monitor developments to ensure transparency and accountability in the security operations.

Uzo-Uwani LGA, known for its agricultural productivity, has for years suffered from neglect due to fear of attacks and lack of infrastructure.

With the governor’s renewed attention, many stakeholders believe that both peace and development may now be restored to the region.

Governor Mbah has also urged residents to report suspicious movements promptly and to cooperate fully with the security operatives.
