In a display of commitment to enforcing traffic regulations, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State personally apprehended an unidentified lance-corporal of the Nigerian Army caught riding a motorcycle (okada) against traffic on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The incident was captured in a viral video, showcasing the governor’s hands-on approach to maintaining order on the state’s roads.

The footage, shared on X by the governor’s media aide, Wale Ajetunmobi, depicts Governor Sanwo-Olu jumping out of his vehicle, accompanied by his security aides, to effect the arrest of the erring military officer. During the pursuit, other okada riders abandoned their motorcycles, fleeing from the scene.

Upon apprehending the soldier, Governor Sanwo-Olu was visibly incensed by the violation and the offender’s claim of being a member of the military. He sternly expressed, “That’s the more reason why I’m going to lock you up. I’m going to lock you up. Useless boy, you’re telling me you’re a soldier.”

This incident aligns with the governor’s commitment to enforcing the ban on motorcycles on highways and specific local government areas in Lagos. Governor Sanwo-Olu had earlier emphasized the collaboration between security services and the state government in ensuring the effective implementation of the motorcycle ban. He reiterated that this measure aims to enhance security and maintain a conducive environment for residents to go about their daily activities without concerns.
