A group, Centre against Impunity and Corruption [CAIC], has demanded the arrest and possible prosecution of the wife of the ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience Jonathan.
The group also called for the sack of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari for allegedly corruptly enriching himself to the tune of 500 million Naira.
CAIC’s demand was made known to newsmen by the Executive Director of the group, Don Ibezim.
In a statement titled “WHY PATIENCE JONATHAN AND OTHER LOOTERS MUST BE ARRESTED AND PROSECUTED”, the group said:
“It is the height of man’s inhumanity against fellow man for the kind of looting of public funds by politicians and public officers to be condoned.
“In a country where millions go to bed hungry it will be a disaster to allow people like Patience [Jonathan] to be walking freely after the kind of looting she committed against the Nigerian state.
“Nothing but her arrest and prosecution will prove that the Buhari anti-corruption war is not selective.
“Also, other first ladies before her and indeed past looters should also not be spared to prove that it is a holistic war and not selective.
“Also it is high time the federal government enquire who owns oil licences in Nigeria and how they got them.
“Was due process followed?
“Finally if it is true that Mr President’s Chief of Staff Abba Kyari corruptly enriched himself to the tune of 500 million then he must be fired and prosecuted to serve as a deterrence.
“Also, Mr President must re-open and investigate the allegations of corruption against the Chief of Army Staff, Gen Buratai to prove that his anti-corruption war is real and not selective.
