The Adamawa based Non Governmental Organization, Adamawa Forum for Good Governance and Transparency in Trade has called on the Nigeria Customs Services to checkmate the alleged ramparts smuggling in of assorted rice from Cameroon border to Nigeria.
Alhaji Maigari Yusuf, the President of the association made the call in Yola ,Wednesday.
Yusuf observed that the high volume importation of the rice on River Benue through Cameroon -Nigeria border is threatening the Federal Government’s policy of rice production in the country.
” As Nigerians, we have to be patriotic and support Our good Government policy of Change begins with me and if you see something, say something.
” We solicited the intervention of the Nigeria Customs Services to checkmate the illegal importation of foreign rice through Wuro Bokki,Ribadu and Njoboli local river ports all in Adamawa by large boats from Cameroon Republic .
” Most of the activities were been carried in the night by unknown individuals.” Yusuf said.
He however; warned that if the illicit trade was not properly checkmated and allowed to continue it would sabotage revenue generations and cripple the National Rice production under the Anchor Borrowers Scheme.
Yusuf said that the group was ever ready to partner with the Nigeria Customs Services and other security agencies to give useful informations that would help checkmate the matter.
It could be recalled that ,Nigeria has a porous border with Cameroon republic and there was daily transportation activity between Jimeta- Yola in Nigeria and Garoa city in Cameroon by large boats and high speed engine boats,
