Gunmen assassinate businessman after Ramadan prayers in Ondo

A businessman simply identified as Mr. Ismaila Awoyinka, has been assassinated by gunmen in Ore community of Ondo State.
Awoyinka, a dealer in building materials, was attacked at his residence located opposite Caring Heart Mega School in the Idi Mango area of Ore.
The gunmen News Band understand, struck around 8:35pm on the 1 of March, shortly after Awoyinka had returned from observing the Taraweeh prayer—a voluntary prayer performed during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
The attackers, said to have been dressed in white attire, arrived on a motorcycle and concealed themselves near Awoyinka’s residence.
As he was about to enter his home, they ambushed him, shooting him at close range.
The gunshot wounds were fatal, leading to his immediate death at the scene.
Meanwhile, the assassination has sent shockwaves through the Ore community. Residents and sympathizers have been gathering at the deceased’s residence to mourn his untimely death.
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and initiated an investigation.
The spokesperson of the command, Funmilayo Odunlami, stated that detectives have been deployed to Ore to apprehend those responsible for the assassination.
Community leaders have urged residents to remain vigilant, especially during evening hours, and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
The unfortunate loss of Awoyinka, known for his contributions to the local economy and his philanthropic efforts, has left a void in the community that will be hard to fill.
