Gunmen suspected to be cultists on Thursday, shot and killed a hotel manager in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
The victim, identified as Mr Anthony Balogun, managed the hotel reportedly owned by his mother before the unfortunate incident.
The incident occurred around 8:00pm within the hotel premises in the Olunlade area of Ilorin.
Two armed men according to reports, entered the hotel, asking to see the manager. Believing they were potential customers, Balogun left his room to meet them at the reception.
A source within the hotel revealed that the assailants then lured him outside and shot him in the chest at close range. They also inflicted machete wounds on his head, hands, and legs.
An elder sister of the deceased informed Channels Television that she had reported the matter to the police.
“I received a call from him around 6:30 pm. At about 7 pm, he called me back wanting to pass on some information, but I asked one of the children to take the call since I was busy in the kitchen,” she recounted, requesting anonymity.
“By 8 pm, I tried to return his call, but the phone was switched off. I tried several more times without success. Shortly after, his wife called, urging me to come to the Kwara State General Hospital, now known as Kwara State University Teaching Hospital. That’s where I found his lifeless body, terribly mutilated.”
A source at the Ganmo Divisional Police Station, where the incident was reported, suggested it may have been a case of homicide.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the command in Kwara is yet to issues a statement in respect to the development.
