A deadly attack was carried out by a group of armed men on a Chinese construction company in Abia State, Nigeria.

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at a road construction site operated by a Chinese engineering firm in Nunya community, Isuikwuato Local Government Area.

About six gunmen, dressed in military camouflage, arrived at the site on three motorcycles, armed with assault rifles, specifically AK-47s.

A Nigerian soldier assigned to protect the facility was fatally shot, and his rifle was seized by the attackers.

A driver working with the construction company was also killed instantly.

The attackers are suspected to be kidnappers, and their primary goal might have been to abduct workers or extort money from the company.

However, the attack turned deadly, resulting in the deaths of the soldier and the driver.

Security forces responded promptly to the distress call and launched a coordinated operation in the area.

The bodies of the deceased were evacuated, and spent AK-47 shells were recovered from the scene.

Following a tip-off, one suspect linked to the attack was arrested in a hideout in Umuahia North Local Government Area and is currently undergoing interrogation.

Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the remaining fleeing suspects.

The attack highlights the growing security concerns in Abia State and the need for increased vigilance and protection for construction sites and personnel.

The incident is part of a larger kidnapping epidemic in Nigeria, with many areas experiencing frequent abductions for ransom.
