Gunmen Kill Police Divisional Crime Officer in Niger

The Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) of ‘A’ Division in Suleja, Niger State, has been killed by gunmen at his residence in the early hours of Sunday, September 21, 2025.

The attack has once again fueled nationwide concerns over the alarming surge in violence against security operatives.

Details about the attackers and their motive remain sketchy at press time.

However, sources confirmed that the officer was targeted at home, a trend that reflects the growing boldness of criminal groups in Nigeria.

This killing adds to a disturbing wave of recent assaults on law enforcement officers across the country.

Earlier on Sunday, gunmen launched a deadly strike in Ilafin community, Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, where two police officers on duty were shot dead.

The attackers stormed a checkpoint, leaving the officers lifeless on the ground as seen in a video obtained by SaharaReporters.

Good Samaritans rushed to the scene, but the policemen could not be saved.

On September 10, another attack was reported in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, where three police officers were killed during a fierce gun battle with gunmen.

According to local accounts, the assailants stormed the checkpoint, exchanged fire with the officers, and made away with their weapons.

The Suleja killing, coming so soon after these incidents, underscores the rising dangers faced by security personnel across Nigeria.

It also raises pressing questions about the safety of communities, as attacks increasingly target both officers and civilians.

Authorities in Niger State have yet to release an official statement, but residents are calling for urgent intervention to stop the escalating violence.
